SPARE PARTS

Spare Parts is based on archival images from the CERN institute (European Organization for Nuclear Research) in Switzerland, depicting scientists working on spare parts of vacuum chambers.

To study the behaviour of the smallest particles in our universe, the building blocks of all matter, scientists need to create an extreme vacuum to prevent the accelerating particles from colliding with other molecules. In institutes for particle physics, large vacuum chambers are built to create such a void.

Spare Parts subtly and humorously questions the human (as well as the artist's own) desire to unravel the deeper layers of reality through science.
